CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Less than a week away from the high-profile opener that will kick off North Carolina’s fourth season under coach Butch Davis, the 18th-ranked Tar Heels aren’t sure exactly who will be playing for them against No. 21 LSU in Atlanta.

The team didn’t release a depth chart Monday before Davis’ weekly news conference, a departure from typical gameweek procedure. Davis wouldn’t say how many players could be out amid an NCAA investigation into agent-related benefits that has expanded into a probe of possible academic misconduct.

School officials have said they might not know until gametime, forcing Davis to use what he acknowledged was a “fluid” informal depth chart in practice this week.
