More than 13,000 pounds of food was collected on Saturday during the Clark County Youth Football Jamboree Food Drive at Kiggins Bowl.

Held as part of the kickoff event for the CCYF season, the food drive was organized for the second year by the Clark County Titans Youth Foundation in conjunction with the CCYF. The goal was to collect at least 10,000 pounds of food.

The two teams that collected the most food earned a pizza party at Pied Piper Pizza in east Vancouver. Leading the way were a pair of teams in the grades 4-5 division. The Evergreen Thunder collected 2,314 pounds of food, and the Battle Ground Tigers collected 1,347 pounds.

The 13,002 pounds of food included $828 in donations that bought 2,404 pounds of food, according to event spokesman Richard Bailey. Donations were delivered to the Salvation Army Stop Hunger Warehouse in Vancouver.

Bailey said the food drive fits with the Clark County Titans Youth Foundation’s mission of encouraging area athletes to be active in community service projects. Rose City Printing and Packaging was the primary sponsor of Saturday’s food drive, Bailey said.

• The season kicked off over the weekend for Southwest Washington Pop Warner football. Scores from the games are in the Community Sports Scoreboard.

Woman wins throws event

In the throws pentathlon, competitors throw the hammer, shot put, discus, javelin and weight. In the ultra weight, competitors throw chained implements of different weights. Masters point totals are graded for age.

Bradley also had a successful throwing season, earning medals at meets including the regional track and field championships for masters in Eugene, Ore., and at the Washington State Senior Games.

The defending Washington state champions for their age division, the Timbers outscored their opponents 19-3 and won all five of their matches. They defeated Seattle United — a team they beat in the state semifinals in the spring — 4-2 in the final match behind three goals from Heim and a penalty kick by Josh York.

This was the first action for the club since June, when it represented Washington state at the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regionals.

• Several Westside Revolution soccer teams placed in their divisions during the Mount Hood Challenge, a tournament that involved more than 450 youth soccer teams from around the region that was played Aug. 20-22 at venues around the Portland area.

Revolution teams won championships at their level of the boys under-13 and the girls under-14 age groups. Revolution teams are the advanced level clubs of the Westside Soccer Club of Vancouver.
