FEDERAL WAY, Wash. (AP) — Police in Federal Way shot and seriously wounded a man late Tuesday afternoon in a case that started with a stolen truck investigation.

KOMO-TV reports that officers responding to a report of a stolen truck believed parked outside a Wal-Mart store saw a man leave the store, get into the truck and drive off. Officers tried to get the man to pull over but the driver refused to stop. Police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock says officers finally were able to cause the man to veer off a local street and crash into a fence.

Officers reportedly fired at the truck when it backed up toward them as they tried to approach. An unidentified man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries.

The spokeswoman says the shooting occurred near South 360th Street and Enchanted Parkway South.
