SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The Catholic Diocese of Spokane may have to sell churches to pay victims of clergy sex abuse.

The Spokesman-Review reports the diocese is running out of money that was put into a fund to pay about 180 sex abuse claims. The diocese has already sold its chancery, farmland and bishop’s residence.

The fund needs to be replenished as part of the settlement the diocese signed to end its bankruptcy.

The funding is an immediate challenge for incoming Bishop Blase Cupich who will be installed on Friday.
