McCoy leads Drexel past Saint Joseph’s 62-50

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Sophomore Daryl McCoy posted career highs of 15 points and 18 rebounds as Drexel defeated Saint Joseph’s 62-50 on Wednesday night.

McCoy’s 18 rebounds were the most in a game by a Dragons player since the 1996 season, when Malik Rose grabbed 19 boards in the North Atlantic Conference championship game.

McCoy shot 7 of 8 from the field and 1 of 2 from the free-throw line.

Chris Fouch added 17 points for Drexel (4-1) and Samme Givens had 10 rebounds and nine points.

The Hawks (3-3) led by five in the first half, but the Dragons used a 13-5 run to lead 31-28 at the break.

Saint Joseph’s got as close as 39-34 with 11:17 to go, then McCoy scored on a dunk and Fouch on a 3-pointer to push the lead into double digits.

Drexel outrebounded the Hawks 46-23, taking a 17-4 advantage on the offensive boards.

Carl Jones scored 20 to lead Saint Joseph’s.
