MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — The 2011 AMA Motocross season will make a dozen stops from New England to California, including a return to the San Diego area.

The season kicks off on May 21 in Sacramento, Calif., at the Hangtown Motocross Classic, a longtime staple on the motocross circuit, and will return to Pala Raceway for the season finale on Sept. 10. Motocross was back in the San Diego area for the first national event in 28 years at the new facility at Pala last season.

Ryan Dungey of Belle Plaine, Minn., broke Ricky Carmichael’s rookie record with 10 victories last season on the way to becoming the first rider to sweep the Supercross and 450 Class as a rookie. He also became the third rider to win the 450 Class after taking the 250 title the year before.
