PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon Department of Justice will remain in charge of the Umatilla County district attorney’s office during an investigation into alleged misconduct by District Attorney Dean Gushwa.
The East Oregonian reports that Gov. Ted Kulongoski has sent a letter to Attorney General John Kroger confirming the Department of Justice will keep managing the Umatilla office.
Gushwa told the Pendleton newspaper he was not sure what authority the governor was using to make that decision.
The state attorney general’s office has accused Gushwa of intimidating and threatening two women he supervised into having sexual relations with him.
