SUN CITY, South Africa (AP) — Lee Westwood hopes a six-week break after the Nedbank Golf Challenge will help him shake a persistent leg injury.

The top-ranked golfer tore a muscle in his lower right leg in June. He says the injury is still hampering his off-course preparations and practice. Westwood does not need surgery and hopes rest will solve the problem.

He wants to finish this week strong and looks forward to “coming out next year and playing as well as I’m playing now.”

The Englishman says his next event will be the European Tour’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on Jan. 20. It’s the first of three straight events for him in the Middle East.
