AURORA, Colo. (AP) — An Oregon woman accused of saying she had cancer, faking hospital visits and shaving her head to scam a charity out of nearly $10,000 faces a theft charge in Colorado.

Julie Jane Martin of Sheridan is due to be arraigned Feb. 7.

An arrest affidavit alleges the Aurora, Colo.-based charity Cops Fighting Cancer gave the 38-year-old money to pay for plane tickets between Portland, Ore., and the Denver area, where she said she was receiving treatment, and for hotel rooms.

Police say the charity’s founder noticed inconsistencies in her stories, and that Martin’s mother and sister said she has faked cancer before.

Martin didn’t return phone messages from The Aurora Daily Sentinel seeking comment.
