CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Chad Gray slammed home the game-winning dunk with 1 second remaining to push Coastal Carolina past Charleston Southern 73-71 on Saturday in the Big South Conference opener for both teams.

Buccaneers guard Jamarco Warren put back a layup with 7 seconds to go, tying the score at 71. But Gray was able to slam home the game-winner as time expired — giving the Chanticleers their fifth consecutive victory.

Desmond Holloway scored 21 points in addition to Gray’s 18 to lead Coastal Carolina (7-2) on the offensive end. Holloway also pulled down 11 rebounds.

The Buccaneers (4-5) trailed 39-31 at halftime and by as many as 12 points, 59-47, with 10:41 remaining in the second half.

The Chanticleers held a 68-59 advantage with 4:36 left, but a 12-3 run by Charleston Southern tied the score before Gray’s game-winner.

Kelvin Martin led the Buccaneers with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
