Quinnipiac defeats Mount St. Mary’s (Md.) 77-75

HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) — James Johnson hit a layup as time expired to lift Quinnipiac to a 77-75 win over Mount St. Mary’s (Md.) on Saturday.

Johnson led the way with 25 points, Justin Rutty added 24 and Jamee Jackson had 11 for the Bobcats (5-2, 1-0 Northeast Conference), who have won three of their past four games. All seven of the Bobcats’ games have been decided by nine points or less.

Trailing 73-69 with 1:38 to play, Quinnipiac closed on an 8-2 run to get the win. Johnson hit a 3-pointer with 25 seconds remaining to tie the game at 75, then hit the winning basket after the Mountaineers turned the ball over with 5 seconds to play.

Quinnipiac had 20 offensive rebounds which led to 20 second-chance points.

Lamar Trice scored 17 points and three others reached double figures for the Mountaineers (3-5, 1-1). Julian Norfleet added 16 points, Shawn Atupem had 15 and Danny Thompson 12.
