Fairfield defeats Loyola (Md.) 65-55

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Ryan Olander had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds to lead Fairfield over Loyola (Md.) 65-55 on Sunday.

Derek Needham and Yorel Hawkins also reached double figures with 14 and 13 points, respectively, in the Stags’ (4-3, 1-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) third straight win. Needham also had eight assists.

Fairfield held the Greyhounds (3-4, 0-2) to 32.7 percent shooting (18 of 55), including just 7 of 25 from 3-point range. Loyola also turned it over 17 times.

The Stags, who never trailed, jumped out to a 14-3 lead midway through the first half and led 35-16 at the break.

Loyola cut it to 47-46 late but Fairfield responded with six straight points to pull away.

Fairfield shot 47.8 percent from the field (22 of 46).

Robert Olson led the Greyhounds with 16 points and Shane Walker grabbed 13 rebounds.
