SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Friends of an armed man who was shot to death by police outside a Spokane tavern say he had been drinking and arguing with his girlfriend.

Friends say the 34-year-old was wrestling with a friend Saturday night in the parking lot when officers told him to drop his weapon. When he didn’t they fired.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the shooting.
