PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistani intelligence officials say missiles fired from a U.S. drone have killed five people in a tribal region bordering Afghanistan.

The officials say Monday’s strike hit a shop and a vehicle in Khushali village in North Waziristan. Three people were killed in the shop and two in the vehicle. The identity of those killed were not immediately know.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not allowed to speak to the media.

The U.S. has ramped up its drone attacks in Pakistan’s lawless border region, launching more than 100 missile strikes so far this year in an attempt to kill key Taliban and al-Qaida figures.
