The Ridgefield City Council unanimously approved the city’s $14.7 million budget for 2011 Thursday night.
The budget includes a 1 percent increase in property taxes, 2 percent increase in utility taxes and 50 cents per month stormwater rate increase.
The 1 percent property tax increase will generate an additional $7,200 for the $2.8 million general fund, City Manager Justin Clary said. General fund money is used to pay for such services as public safety and parks.
Water and sewer utility tax rates will increase from the current 6 percent to 8 percent.
The increase will cost customers an extra $1.40 per month and will generate about $35,300 for the city. The money will be transferred to the street fund for street repair and replacement projects, Clary said.
The stormwater utility rate will increase from $4.50 to $5 per month per equivalent dwelling unit.
The increase will bring in an additional $21,000 to fund utility operations, Clary said.
The budget includes about $7 million for capital projects, with the largest chunk ($5.4 million) going toward the second phase of the Interstate 5-Highway 501 interchange replacement project. Other capital projects include $850,000 for Overlook Park development, $350,000 to purchase right of way for the 35th Avenue roundabout, $350,000 for 85th Avenue construction, $180,000 for improvements to Abrams Park and $100,000 for well source development at the junction.
