WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — Philip Brook has been elected chairman of Wimbledon’s All England Club.

Brook, the previous vice chairman, takes over for Tim Phillips, who retired after 11 years in the post.

The appointment was announced Thursday and is effective immediately.

The 54-year-old Brook has been a member of the All England Club since 1989 and a member of Wimbledon’s championship management committee since 1997. He is a former captain of Cambridge University’s tennis team.
