LEICESTER, England (AP) — Leicester manager Sven-Goran Eriksson says he has failed in a bid to sign former England midfielder David Beckham from the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Eriksson, whose team is in the bottom half of the English league’s second tier, says he spoke to David’s agent to see if there was a chance.

The Galaxy have said Beckham won’t be able to go on loan during the MLS offseason after he was injured during a stint at AC Milan in March.

Beckham, who will be entering the final year of his Galaxy contract when the MLS season resumes in March, was captain of England when Eriksson was in charge of the team from 2001-06.
