Newcomers arriving in county at faster rate

The number of newcomers moving to Clark County increased in November, with 1,066 adults trading in out-of-county driver’s licenses for local ones.

Last month’s total was up 24 percent from the 853 newcomers who applied for a license here in November 2009, according to data supplied by the Washington Department of Licensing. The influx of newcomers has remained strong through the year when compared to 2009. There were 13,905 licenses issued to people who came to Clark County from elsewhere from January through November, a 22 percent increase over the same period last year.

Of the 1,066 drivers taking out local licenses, 567 were from Oregon, 100 from California and 39 were from Michigan, the licensing department said.
