JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Coming off its first year without Tiger Woods winning a tournament, the PGA Tour will be leaning on its next generation in promoting the 2011 season.

In a brief conference call Thursday, commissioner Tim Finchem says he has never seen so much interest in rookies and other young players in his 17 years in charge of the PGA Tour. He says that will be the primary promotional focus.

The new season starts in one month in Hawaii, and it figures to be a big year on and off the golf course.

The key part of the business side is a new television contract. Also to be determined is whether Finchem is going to retire. His contract expires in 2012, but he says the board would need to start looking for a replacement much earlier if he decides to leave.
