TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A federal immigration judge has ordered a Mexican woman who was adopted by an American couple more than 35 years ago to be deported.

The Tacoma News Tribune reports that Judge Tammy Fitting ruled this week that 38-year-old Tara Ammons Cohen of Omak should be removed from the country after finding that her argument that she would face danger in Mexico was not to be sufficient to keep her in the country.

Cohen was adopted by an American family when she was 5 months old. Her parents did not get her naturalized, nor did she do so when she had a chance later.

Immigration agents arrested Cohen after a minor drug charge in 2008. She is married and has two children. She does not speak Spanish.
