Resurgent Army looks to end Navy dominance

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Army and Navy renew their long rivalry on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field, and the Black Knights are looking for a breakthrough.

Navy (8-3) has beaten Army (6-5) eight consecutive times and holds a 54-49-7 advantage in the series.

Navy’s winning streak is the longest in the series by either academy, and the Middies have surrendered just three points over the last three installments. Another win looms as a more difficult task, though.

In less than two years, coach Rich Ellerson has transformed Army into a winner again. For the first time in 14 years, the Navy game won’t end the season for the Black Knights. They play SMU in the Armed Forces Bowl as all three service academies are in the postseason together for the first time. Navy plays San Diego State in the Poinsettia Bowl and Air Force (8-4) meets Georgia Tech (6-6) in the Independence Bowl.
