LOS ANGELES (AP) — Freshman guard Matt Carlino will transfer from UCLA without ever playing in a regular-season game.

Carlino plans to leave school immediately and hasn’t decided where he will transfer.

The 6-foot-1 guard from Scottsdale, Ariz., took a hard fall in practice after the Bruins’ first exhibition game and had a concussion, which sidelined him for the last exhibition game and the first three games of the season.

Carlino was medically cleared to play in the Bruins’ last four games, but was not used.

Coach Ben Howland wished Carlino well in a statement issued by the school on Friday.

Carlino said in the university’s release that he believes a new school would be “much healthier” for him personally and athletically.
