SEATTLE (AP) — The Washington Transportation Department says it will have eight more sanding trucks ready for the next snow storm that hits Seattle-area highways.
The department showed off the pickup trucks Friday at its Seattle maintenance yard. They are being turned into “mini-sanders” with the addition of hoppers and equipment mounted on the tailgates.
The department has been looking to prevent a repeat of the gridlock that hit Seattle during the Nov. 22 snow. Officials say the pickup truck sanders should be more maneuverable than dump-truck-size sanders.
