LA GRANDE, Ore. (AP) — Graveyard vandalism that left more than 100 monuments damaged at a La Grande cemetery last week may be the worst ever reported in the eastern Oregon city.

The La Grande Observer reports that monuments at Hillcrest Cemetery were broken off at their bases and tipped over, and some of the older marble ones smashed to pieces.

Some headstones were switched from one base to another. One marble cross was stolen and another tipped over on its head.

Sue Anderson, the manager of the La Grande Cemetery Maintenance District, called the vandalism very deliberate.

Police say there are no suspects, so far.
