CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — A Corvallis, Ore., man has been convicted of murder in the hammer slaying of a 78-year-old woman who was his neighbor.

Investigators say 64-year-old David McCaffery killed Yvonne Perry with a ball peen hammer in August 2009. A Benton County Circuit Court jury convicted him Monday.

Jurors were told that a microscopic amount of Perry’s blood was found on McCaffery’s watch.

Sentencing is scheduled for Friday. Under Oregon’s Measure 11, the mandatory minimum sentence for murder is 25 years.
