SEQUIM, Wash. (AP) — The deaths of a couple at their condo near Sequim (skwim) appear to be a murder-suicide.

Jefferson County Sheriff Tony Hernandez tells the Peninsula Daily News the man and woman in their 70s both died Wednesday night of gunshot wounds to the chest.

The newspaper says they had been married more than 50 years.

The sheriff says deputies responded after a 911 call from the 70-year-old woman, who reportedly said she had killed her husband and was going to shoot herself. They found the 74-year-old man on a bed with a gunshot wound, the woman on the floor with a similar wound, and a .38 caliber gun.

Hernandez says deputies have learned the man had been ailing, but he declined to provide details.
