SALEM, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon man who was sexually abused as a child has sued a state agency for $5.25 million, claiming it failed to screen and monitor a foster care provider.

The Statesman Journal reports the lawsuit against the Oregon Department of Human Services says the man was repeatedly raped and molested between the ages of 11 and 18 by Susan Alderson, his foster care provider.

The 47-year-old Alderson is a former Silver Falls School District teacher who pleaded guilty in February to rape, sodomy and sexual abuse for her conduct involving the victim.

Alderson was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

The lawsuit filed recently in Marion County Circuit Court alleges the state failed to conduct an adequate background investigation or monitor Alderson.
