Snow in the forecast for Clark County

A White Christmas: Who knows? A white weekend: Looks that way.

The National Weather Service expects a cold weather system to drift across the Vancouver-Portland metro area this evening, likely bringing the right mixture of cold and precipitation to form that magical powder.

The likelihood of snow is pegged at 80 percent. The odds are even better on Saturday, when there’s a 100 percent chance of snow.

Early Saturday, between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m., the weather service predicts a “heavy wet snow” that could accumulate up to an inch in Vancouver and Portland, and more in higher elevations.

It won’t last long, though. “Any snow is expected to turn to rain quickly by late Saturday morning,” according to the weather service.

In a weather occurrence not nearly as pleasant, a dense fog is likely to descend on the valley Saturday. Be careful on the roadways.

Showers are predicted Saturday afternoon and Sunday.
