SOCHAUX, France (AP) — American Charlie Davies is expected to play for Sochaux on Sunday for the first time since a near-fatal car crash 14 months ago.
Davies was a passenger in a car accident in October 2009 in which another passenger died.
He was left with two broken bones in his right leg, a broken and dislocated left elbow, a broken nose, forehead and eye socket, a ruptured bladder and bleeding on the brain.
Davies missed the World Cup this year as a result of the crash. His last competitive match was the United States’ World Cup qualifier at Honduras on Oct. 10 last year — only days before the crash.
The forward has appeared in several reserve games for Sochaux to build up his fitness. The team will play Bordeaux on Sunday.
