Belmont dominates first half, routs Troy 98-63

TROY, Ala. (AP) — Jordan Campbell scored 15 points, Belmont used a strong early run and capitalized on Troy’s first-half mistakes in a 98-63 rout on Saturday.

Campbell, who scored all of his points on five 3-pointers, led four other Bruin players that scored in double figures. Scott Saunders and Ian Clark each finished with 13 points, while Mick Hedgepeth and J.J. Mann had 10 apiece.

Belmont (8-2), which has won three straight, trailed 8-5 before going on a 33-5 run over the next 11 minutes of the first half to eventually claim a 51-25 lead at halftime. The Bruins forced 18 turnovers by Troy (1-9), which has lost nine in a row.

Shawntez Patterson led the Trojans with 24 points on 9 of 12 shooting from the field, making six of his shots from behind the 3-point line. Vernon Taylor had 13 points and Will Weathers had 12 points and a game-high eight turnovers.
