UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) — Rick DiPietro is sitting out the New York Islanders’ game against the Phoenix Coyotes because of swelling in his left knee.

Islanders coach Jack Capuano said the injury wasn’t serious. New York called up 27-year-old goalie Nathan Lawson from Bridgeport of the AHL on Saturday and gave him his first NHL start that night. Veteran netminder Dwayne Roloson served as his backup.

DiPietro skated Saturday morning with the team and said the injury to his surgically repaired knee was minor.

Lawson was 2-4-2 in nine games with Bridgeport this season.
