The U.S. Postal Service will collect mail from collection boxes in Vancouver and Portland after 3:30 p.m. Sunday to get a head start on what is typically its busiest day of the year. Those boxes are typically not collected Sundays.

The Monday before Christmas is usually the busiest mailing day of the year. Mail dropped off Sunday will get a head start. Mail deposited in the boxes will be picked up, postmarked, processed and sent on its way Sunday night.

Nationwide, about 800 million holiday cards, letters and packages will be processed Monday. Wednesday is expected to be the busiest delivery day.
