Morgan State knocks off UMBC 75-62

BALTIMORE (AP) — DeWayne Jackson scored 15 points to lead five players in double figures as Morgan State defeated Maryland-Baltimore County 75-62 on Saturday.

Kevin Thompson and Aric Brooks added 14 points each for the Bears (4-4), who never trailed and led by 22 points late in the first half.

UMBC (0-11) went on a 7-1 run early in the second half to cut Morgan State’s lead to 46-38 on Chris De La Rosa’s free throw with 11:35 remaining in the game. Morgan State’s Tola Lawal countered with a jumper for a 48-38 lead.

The Bears led by double figures the rest of the game.

Lawal and Justin Black added 10 points each for Morgan State, which shot 60.5 percent from the field (23 of 38) for the game, but only 65.8 percent from the free throw line (25 of 38).

De La Rosa finished with 20 points and 11 assists. Laurence Jolicoeur had 13 points and Chase Plummer added 11 for UMBC.
