Samford rallies to beat Asbury, of NAIA, 80-67

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Josh Davis scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half and Samford rallied to beat Asbury College 80-67 on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (7-4) were 7 of 11 from 3-point range in the second half (63.6 percent), including 4 of 4 from Davis.

The NAIA Eagles, counting the game as an exhibition, made 5 3s early to take a 23-9 lead. Samford then went on a 19-4 run to lead for the first time, 28-27, on Davis’ 3 with 4:09 left in the first half.

The Bulldogs led 49-46 with 11:42 left and went on a 13-3 run to lead 62-49 on Drew Windler’s 3 with 7:22 remaining.

Windler finished with 17 points and made 3 of 5 3-pointers, Jeffrey Merritt scored 14 points and Gregg Wooten 13 for the Bulldogs. Samford shot 66.7 percent from the field in the second half (16 of 24) and 41.7 percent from long range in the game (10 of 24).

Adam Delph had 26 points and Phillip Morrison 20 for the Eagles.
