DURBAN, South Africa (AP) — Ernie Els has won the South African Open for the fifth time, shooting a 6-under 63 to beat Retief Goosen by one shot.

Els had five birdies, an eagle and a bogey Sunday to finish at 25-under 257 in the rain-delayed European Tour event, where South Africans took the top four spots.

The course was shortened to 17 holes because of a water-logged green on the par-3 fourth, where all players were given a par score.

In the third round, also played Sunday, Els had three bogeys on his first five holes, but recovered with seven birdies to stay one shot ahead of Goosen.

British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen finished third, four shots behind Els, and Charl Schwartzel was fourth, seven shots back, after a 65.
