Dayton defeats Winthrop 73-58

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Chris Johnson scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Dayton to a 73-58 victory over Winthrop on Monday night.

The Flyers (9-3) led 39-27 at halftime after shooting 17 of 37 from the floor in the opening half (45.9 percent).

Chris Wright scored 10 points and was the only other Dayton player to score in double figures. Devin Searcy grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and was one of 10 Flyers to score at least four points.

Winthrop (5-6) went 10 for 28 from the field (35.7 percent) in the first half, but turned it on after halftime by shooting 50 percent (12 of 24).

Charles Corbin scored 18 points, Robbie Dreher had 14 and Reggie Middleton 10 for the Eagles, who got as close as 57-49 with 10:15 left to play.

Dayton outrebounded the Eagles 46-28 and benefited from 19 second-chance points.
