FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets headed to Pittsburgh a struggling team desperate to turn things around.
They left with a 22-17 win that boosted their confidence and their playoff hopes in a big way.
Linebacker Calvin Pace says the Jets (10-4) were able to get “that bad taste out of our mouths” after an embarrassing 45-3 loss at New England was followed by a frustrating 10-6 defeat to Miami. New York now controls its postseason destiny, and could potentially clinch a playoff spot with a win over Chicago next Sunday.
Fullback Tony Richardson said Monday the Jets’ latest win was a complete effort, with Brad Smith returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown, Mark Sanchez playing a turnover-free game and the defense holding on in the end.
