PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) — Economic developers in the Eastern Oregon town Pendleton say landing a data center the way the city of Prineville did with Facebook faces a major obstacle: Not enough electricity to power the plant and no ready way to pay for the necessary power line upgrade.
Officials say an unnamed high-tech company two years ago wanted to move a data processing center to the city’s industrial park, bringing 35 jobs.
But the East Oregonian reports the tab for more electrical capacity was $15 million and no deal could be struck to pay for it.
The paper says the project didn’t find a home, and the city’s industrial park remains undeveloped.
