PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A man who pleaded guilty to stabbing his former girlfriend to death in Portland was sentenced in Multnomah County Circuit Court to life in prison.

The 35-year-old Cuban immigrant, Miguel Camellon-Montalvo, asked the family of 28-year-old Lindsay Babb for forgiveness Monday but did not look at them in court.

The Oregonian reports Babb was stabbed 27 times with a kitchen knife last June as she showered at her home. She grew up in Eugene and graduated from the University of Oregon and was captain of her rugby team in Portland.

Camellon-Montalvo will be eligible for parole after 25 years.
