WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Garrett Stutz had 20 points to help Wichita State win an 82-79 shootout against Tulsa on Tuesday night at Intrust Bank Arena.

The Golden Hurricane (5-6) missed two 3-point shots in the final 10 seconds, allowing the Shockers (9-2) to win the first basketball game at the new downtown arena.

David Kyles scored 19 for the Shockers, and Aaron Ellis added 10.

Tulsa’s Justin Hurtt led all scorers with 30 points, including six 3-pointers. Bryson Pope had 16 points and Scottie Haralson 15.

Hurtt scored 13 straight Tulsa points over an 8 1/2-minute stretch in the second half. Wichita State built two seven-point leads — the biggest for either team — but Tulsa closed within 80-79 on Bryson Pope’s driving basket with 1:18 remaining.

Tulsa shot 27 of 53 (50.9 percent) and 14 of 27 (51.9 percent) from 3-point range but was outscored 28-11 from the free throw line.
