Rice, Simons help Drake pound Chicago State 102-51

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Rayvonte Rice scored 23 points and Ben Simons 22 as Drake shot 53.6 percent from 3-point range in a 102-51 rout of Chicago State on Thursday.

Simons led the 3-point barrage, hitting 6 of 7, while Rice made 4 of 9. The Bulldogs (5-6) went 15 of 28 as a team.

Kurt Alexander added 12 points and eight assists, Ryan Wedel scored 11 and Seth VanDeest 10 as Drake broke a two-game losing streak.

Carl Montgomery posted a double-double for the Cougars (3-12) with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Victor Scott added 11 points and Hajji Martin 10.

Drake outshot Chicago State 49.2 percent (30 of 61) to 34.5 percent (19 of 55), outrebounded the Cougars 45-34 and forced 15 turnovers while committing only seven.

The Bulldogs led 46-31 at halftime. The lead reached 30, at 67-37, with 10:58 left, and 40, at 89-49, with 4:58 to go.
