MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — Medford police are getting ready for a second trial of a suspect in a 2006 stabbing by searching downtown rooftops for the murder weapon.

The police say they’ve been frustrated for years because they can’t find a 5-inch-long, multicolored knife with the words “Viva Mexico” on it.

The Medford Mail Tribune says detectives climbed up the ladder on a search and rescue truck Wednesday take another look but didn’t find it.

In 2007, a jury found 25-year-old Luis Alberto Salas-Juarez guilty of killing 23-year-old Mark Lunsford of Butte Falls.

The Supreme Court ordered a new trial, ruling that it didn’t hear important evidence about another man making threatening statements.

No date has been set for the new trial.
