Sheryl Black and her family woke to a surprise Christmas morning, one far less pleasant than gifts tucked beneath a tree: The Jesus figure had been swiped from its manger.
Black, who spent the night at her parents’ home in Cascade Park, said the nativity scene was complete when the family returned shortly after 1 a.m. from a Christmas Eve service at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. When they woke in the morning, its centerpiece was missing.
“Every year, we put it out in the front yard,” Black said.
Black said her parents have lived at the intersection of Southeast 125th Avenue and McGillivray Boulevard for 22 years. She said the manger scene has been a tradition for about 15 years.
“It’s insane that someone would stoop so low to take baby Jesus,” Black said. “The meaning of Christmas and it’s gone.”
