SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Police say they arrested a Spokane man after a standoff that lasted several hours and involved SWAT officers using chemical agents to subdue the man.

The Spokesman Review reports that police attempted to contact 44-year-old Robert T. Finkbeiner at a Spokane house on Friday because of warrants stemming from a March 2009 first-degree robbery and first-degree charges.

Spokane police spokesman Tim Moses says that Finkbeiner refused to surrender when police arrived at the house. Moses says SWAT was called in and they entered the home after bombing the home with a chemical agent.

Finkbeiner was arrested along with his girlfriend, Julie K. French. She was taken on suspicion of rendering criminal assistance after telling police he wasn’t at home.
