PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland police have said the man shot and wounded by officers on Monday night remains in critical condition.

The Portland Police Bureau says in a statement that it will not identify the officers involved in the shooting of 34-year-old Marcus Lagozzino until Thursday afternoon.

The bureau says Lagozzino physically assaulted his parents, who are both in their 60s, then armed himself with a machete and began breaking windows in the Portland home.

Police officers shot and wounded Lagozzino after first firing a stun gun and a beanbag gun at him.

The police bureau says Lagozzino’s parents told dispatchers that their son had a history of being suicidal and had threatened to commit “suicide by cop.”

It was Portland’s second officer-involved shooting in less than two weeks and the sixth this year.
