BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — A brother of Diego Maradona says he and two siblings escaped without injury in a robbery attempt after visiting their mother in a Buenos Aires hospital.

Raul “Lalo” Maradona says he and two sisters were briefly taken hostage late Monday after their car was intercepted in northern Buenos Aires. Raul Maradona told reporters Tuesday he managed to escape and alert police. His sisters were released a short time later.

Police confirmed the robbery attempt, but did not offer details.

Raul Maradona said the three were forced to hand over unspecified personal belongings. He said the thieves did not appear to know the three were siblings of the famous soccer icon and former Argentina national team coach.
