UC Riverside beats UC Irvine 73-68

IRVINE, Calif. (AP) — Javon Borum scored 30 points, going 12 for 12 from the free-throw line, as UC Riverside edged UC Irvine 73-68 Tuesday night in the Big West Conference opener for both teams.

Kareem Nitoto scored 13 points and Phil Martin added 10 for the Highlanders (5-7). Kevin Bradshaw had nine points and 10 rebounds, and Elliott Berry also contributed 10 boards for UC Riverside, which held a 52-39 rebounding edge.

Borum was 7 of 13 from the field, including 4 for 7 from 3-point range, while nearly everyone else struggled to score. Riverside shot 33 percent in the game while Irvine made only 36 percent.

Daman Starring led the Anteaters (6-7) with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Darren Moore had 13 points and eight rebounds and Mike Wilder 11 points for Irvine.
