SEMMERING, Austria (AP) — Tessa Worley of France posted the fastest time in the first leg of a women’s World Cup giant slalom Tuesday as she tries to earn her third straight win in the discipline.

Worley, who won recent GS races in Aspen, Colo., and St. Moritz, Switzerland, finished the Panorama course in 1 minute, 4.47 seconds to lead Tina Maze of Slovenia by 0.18.

Germany’s Maria Riesch was 0.49 back in third and could overtake Lindsey Vonn on top of the overall standings.

The American overall champion had the fastest start but finished sixth with 1.05 seconds to make up in the second run.

Kathrin Zettel of Austria, who won the last two races on this course in 2006 and ’08, was 1.10 back in 10th.
