Heavy snow in Eastern Washington

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Heavy snow is making travel tough in much of the eastern third of Washington state, with seven inches of snow in the Spokane area and blizzard conditions in the Palouse.

Blowing and drifting snow has closed U.S. 195 between the Idaho state line and Pullman, and State Route 27 from Palouse to Garfield. The Washington State Patrol says traffic is moving along Interstate 90 through downtown Spokane, but snow is blanketing roads in other parts of the city and its suburbs.

The National Weather Services says the snow should taper off Wednesday night, but clearing skies Thursday will mean icy temperatures — down to minus four degrees in Spokane Thursday night and colder in northeast Washington.

Light snow hit parts of Western Washington, but much of the Puget Sound area had sunny skies by mid-afternoon.
