Hymes, Canisius beat Northwestern State 85-52

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Alshwan Hymes hit a school-record nine 3-pointers en route to a career-high 28 points as Canisius routed Northwestern State 85-52 on Wednesday night.

Hymes tied the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference record for 3-pointers in a game, joining five other players. He was 9 of 15 from long-range.

The Golden Griffins (6-6), who lost to the Demons on their home court 86-74 on Dec. 19, had 22 offensive rebounds and scored 25 points off 29 Northwestern State turnovers.

Canisius trailed by nine early, but rallied to lead 41-31 at the break.

The Demons (8-5), who came in averaging 82.1 points per game (14th in the nation), had their lowest point total of the season while shooting 22.2 percent (6 of 27) in the second half.

Julius Coles scored 15 points to become the 31st Golden Griffins player to surpass 1,000 points.

Will Pratt led Northwestern State with 15 points.
